When most people fall asleep, the ghosts continue their eternal wandering… but what about those who choose to stay awake – and explore? Guests of Czocha Castle can find out for themselves by joining the Night Tour of this medieval fortress.
Just after dusk, when the heavy gates close behind the last visitor and the echoing clang fills the courtyard, you’ll know – there is no turning back.
An elegant curator, accompanied by two guides, will lead you into the grandest hall of this mysterious manor, where your nocturnal adventure begins.
For nearly three hours, participants will wander through castle chambers – in one of them, they may hear the cry of a baby walled up alive by a former lord who showed no mercy to its mother. Her spirit still roams the corridors, forever searching for her lost child.
That same ruler and his successors were known to punish their unfaithful wives and lovers by throwing them into a deep well – now known as the Well of Unfaithful Wives. There, guests will bow their heads as the chilling echo of death brushes the back of their necks…
Explorers will pass through secret passages, discover the torture chamber where ancient cries of agony still linger, descend into the looted treasury of Czocha’s last owner after World War II, enjoy delicious mead in the castle winery, and visit the armory and dark dungeons.
Each night at the castle, when mist begins to rise over the Kwisa River and a hollow whistle seeps through the wooden shutters – it is a sign that we are not alone.
Depending on the phase of the moon, one may encounter the phantoms of murdered princesses seeking solace among the living. Knights fight endless battles to honor their rulers, fire dancers stare death in the eye as they tame the flames, and wandering soldiers still clash and fall – dying namelessly upon the cold castle floor.
